Make the legs on the bench by taking a short, thick wood beam, about four inches thick by one foot long. Install the legs around two feet apart. If you are building a bench that will be about four feet tall, you only need two legs. If you are building the bench on a deck or patio, drill screws to the bottom of the deck or courtyard in the legs. You must use at least one screw in the center of the leg. If you are building a bench in the yard, hammer your legs to the ground using a hammer, carving a leg at one end of the leg will make this process easier.
