Restoration Oak File Cabinet

Oct 29th

Oak File Cabinet – Restoring a filing cabinet of the 1940s, which we intend to give it its splendor, without losing that range of colors iridescent use and the passage of time, which I particularly love. If you look at the envelope of the furniture, as it belonged to a modular with several pieces, of which we only have this centerpiece, on the side of both sides, there is no molding. We are fortunate that the piece had a molding on the back, so we have removed that molding and we have cut making the sides of both sides leaving the back flush with the furniture and the sides with molding.

First Step: we are going to disinfect the oak file cabinet, for this we perform a test with aqua and a white cloth and we see that we remove wax, with which we had to clean all the wax furniture first. Then we had to remove the old shellac, since it protects the wood and prevents the disinfectant product from penetrating into it, for it a green sponge and ammonia to leave the drawers without the varnish. Once we have cleaned the remains of previous varnishes, we started disinfecting. Second Step:  After fifteen days of disinfection, we proceed to recover the piece.

The first thing is to unify the envelope of the oak file cabinet with the same color as the piece, for it we have prepared a dye in walnut, with a little orange to get honey color aged wood that has the original wood. In this ideas we see the envelope with the profiles already glued and as we begin to dye the wood. Before that, we have closed the pore with steel wool 000 to get the color to penetrate evenly. Step Three:  We apply the lacquer-gum to the furniture, we have given the Lacquer-Lacquer varnish to the doll. This step and I advance you that it is a work, I do not know how many times I have taken and put the drawers but many, many.
